Pteranodon sp. USNM 12167 (undescribed) was derived from a sister to the USNM 13868 specimen and phylogenetically preceded the KUVP 27821 specimen.

Distinct from the USNM 13868 specimen, the crest of USNM 12167 was taller and narrower dorsally. No cantilevered process was posterior to the orbit. The orbit was smaller.
