Iteravis huchzermeyeri (Zhou, O'Connor and Wang 2014 Ju et al. 2021; Early Cretaceous; IVPP V18958) nests betwen Hongshanornis and crown birds as their new last common ancestor. Ju et al. found no differences between this taxon and Gansus. Zhou, O'Connor and Wang nested them close to one another due to taxon exclusion in among crown birds. Here the two are distinct and separated by Hongshanornis.

Archaeorhynchus spathula (Zhou and Zhang 2006; Wang and Zhou 2016; Early Cretaceous) nests with Iteravis in the LRT and solidifies an Early Cretaceous origin for crown birds.

Archaeorhynchus spathula (Foth et al. 2021; Early Cretaceous; LNTU-WLMP-18) nests with Archaeorhynchus in the LRT, but has a distinct skull shape, typical tibia/femur porportions and other plesiomorphic traits. Here the sternum and furcula are identified.
