Owenetta kitchingorum (Reisz and Scott 2002) Late Permian O. kitchingorum - Early Triassic ~250 mya, was originally considered a cotylosaur (= captorhinind like Captorhinus). It was later moved to the Parareptilia (which is not considered valid here) as a relative to Nyctiphruretus, whic is correct. Tsuji (2006) nested Owenetta with Procolophon, but they are not closely related. Reisz and Laurin (1991) reported a similar nesting that also included turtles.

Here Owenetta was derived from a sister to Nyctiphruretus. Candelaria was a sister taxon. These taxa phylogenetically preceded Barasaurus and Santaisaurus progressivley closer to the base of the Lepidosauriformes.

Distinct from Nyctiphruretus, the skull of Owenetta was taller with frontals that were pinched above the orbits. The prefrontals contacted one another, separating the nasals fromt the frontals. The cervicals were longer, the dorsal ribs were longer and wider. The scapula and coracoid were not fused and much smaller. The forelimb was longer. The ilium was lower and with a longer posterior process. The hindlmb was longer.

Owenetta rubidgei (Broom, 1939) is an owenettid with a grealy flattened skull. It is the type for the genus.

Saurodektes rogersorum is a small owenettid lepidosauromorph (BP/1/6025, Early Induan, Early Triassic) originally named “Saurodectes” by Modesto et al. (2003), but that name was preoccupied by a fossil louse. The holotype of Saurodektes is known from a partial skull and anteriormost postcrania.
