Kitchingnathus untabeni (Cisneros 2008) Early Triassic, BP/1/1187, skull and partial post-cranial material. Originally considered another Procolophon when collected in 1952, it was named in 2008.
Kitchingnathus is derived from Barasaurus and basal to Sauropareion and Santaisaurus. Note the smaller naris.
Traditional workers unite these taxa with Procolophon and kin, but they are only distantly related. Additional taxa, as seen the large reptile tree, resolves the issue. |
