Gansus yumenensis (Hou and Liu 1984, You et al. 2006; Early Cretaceous was known from several fossils, none of them complete and none of them including the skull, mandibles or anterior neck.

Gansus zheni (Liu et al. 2014 BMNHC–Ph 1342; Early Cretaceous) is known from a complete skeleton. It nests between Yanornis and Hongshanornis.

Iteravis huchzermeyeri (Zhou, O'Connor and Wang 2014 Ju et al. 2021; Early Cretaceous; IVPP V18958) nests betwen Hongshanornis and crown birds as their new last common ancestor. Ju et al. found no differences between this taxon and Gansus. Zhou, O'Connor and Wang nested them close to one another due to taxon exclusion in among crown birds. Here the two are distinct and separated by Hongshanornis.
