Eschrichtius robustus (15m; extant; Gray 1864) The gray whale nests at the base of all tested mysticetes and provides the best clues to envision the post-crania of Behemotops, and other derived desmostylians. Tooth sockets (alveoli) from former tusks in desmostylians are still visible in this specimen (below).
