Theosodon garrettorum (Ameghino 1887; Hatcher 1910; early Miocene, 20mya; 2m in length) was a smaller, more primitive macrauchenid, sharing some traits with Tapirus and Heptodon. It had elongate naris and a very short and split nasal. A full arcade of teeth, and three toes per foot are traits shared with Macrauchenia. |
