Monodelphis kunsi (Pine 1975) is the pygmy short-tailed opossum. It nests basal to Marmosops and Marmosa in the LRT. It is the smallest of the three in this genus. A sagittal crest is lacking and the canine is small, indicators of neotony. This species also lacks a pouch.

Marmosa murina (Gray 1821, Voss and Jansa 2009)is one of 19 species of 'mouse opossums' native from Mexico to Argentina. In the large reptile tree Marmosa nests Marmosops.

Marmosops ocellatus (Lund 1840, Voss 2004) is the extant spectacled slender opossum, an insectivore and frugivore. It lacks a pouch. Here it nests at the base of the herbivorous marsupials.
