Chaetodipterus faber (Broussonet 1782) is the extant Atlantic spadefish, a relative of Scorpis in the LRT, but with longer fins and both were derived from a longer, faster fish, Scomberoides. Note the elongate, compressed teeth and very tall dorsal crest. Diet includes shelled invertebrates, worms and jellyfish. These are traditional members of the clade Ephippidae, but here nest with faster open-sea predators. |
