Fundulus, Amblyopsis, Typhlichthys and Ductor

Fundulus cingulatus (Lacepede 1803; 10cm) is the extant banded topminnow is an egg-laying toothcarp. Here Fundulus is a phylogenetically miniaturized taxon following Scomber and Thunnus.

Amblyopsis hoosieri (DeKay 1842, Armbruster et al. 2016; up to 11cm) is a blind cavefish that retains pelvic fins. A traditional member of the Percopsiformes, this is a blind killifish.

Typhlichthys subterraneus (Girard 1859, 10cm) is the extant Southern cave fish, another blind killifish. A loose lacrimal overlaps the maxilla, a toothy vomer, two postfrontals, and three separate jugals. No pelvic fins are present. Scales are absent along with their pigment. Chemoreceptors dot the body. The mandible is prognathus.
