Wadeichthys oxyops (Waldman 1971; 12cm long; NMV P30909, Early Cretaceous) was originally considered a member of the the Pholodophoriformes, like Pholidophorus. Here it nests withe Dipteronotus. Note the robust yet blunt teeth and the whiskbroom-like fins.
There is another taxon under the genus Wadeichthys that is related to the extant piranha, Serrasalmus, amember of the herring family. |
