Chailcotherium goldfussi (Kaup 1833, Middle Eocene to Early Pleistocene, 46 to 1 mya) is an extinct chalicothere that walked on its knuckles, like a gorilla. This herbivore was most closely related to Tapirus among tested taxa. It is also related to the extant horse. The forelimbs were much longer than the hind limbs, as in ground sloths. Other chalicotheres have limbs of subequal length. |
