Ciconia ciconia (Linneaus 1758; 100 cm long) is the white stork, a gregarious, soaring, migrating carnivore. Considered a ciconiform, here it nests with the heron, Ardea.

It turns out that storks like this do indeed deliver babies. Stork babies from one clutch of four eggs per year.

Aramus guarauna (Linneaus 1766; 64-73cm) is the extant limpkin. It is often considerd transitional between rails and cranes. Here the limpkin nests with thes stork, Ciconia. Extant limpkins eat snails.

Butorides virescens (Linneaus 1758; 44cm long) the extant green heron is a smaller relative of Ardea. The neck is often pulled in close to the body. The legs are shorter.

Ardea herodias (Linneaus 1758; 1m tall) the extant great blue heron is a tall, gracile, wading bird capable of flight. The spear-like bill is used to stab underwater prey.
