Allosaurus fragilis (Marsh 1877, Madsen 1993) Late Jurassic, 12m long, several specimens known) has been known for over a century. It is considered the 'typical' theropod. Here it nests as a sister to Yutyrannus, so Allosaurus was probably also feathered.

Note the lacrimal 'horns' and descending jugal. Like Dilong the nasals have short crests. Distinct from Tyrannosaurus, this carnivore retained a long neck. The jugal appears to have contacted the antorbital fenestra in the specimen below.

Afrovenator abakensis (Sereno et al 1994; Middle Jurassic) is a North Arfican relative of Allosaurus from North America. The strata was originally considered Early Cretaceous, but later reinterpreted as Middle Jurassic.

Giganotosaurus carolinii (Coria and Salgaod 1995, Cenomanian 99mya, Late Cretaecous, est 13m long) was considered a member of the Carcharodontosauridae. Here it nests with Late Jurassic Allosaurus after flipping the postorbital. The neck is relatively shorter. The dorsal neural spines are taller. The hands and feet are not known.

Meraxes gigas (Canale et al 2022; Late Cretaceous, Late Cenomian Argentina, MMCh-PV 65, skull length 1.2m) is the "Campanas carcharodontosaurid." Here it nests with Giganotosaurus, derived from Allosaurus. Carcharodontosaurus is known from North Africa. This clade of theropods had spread world wide. Acrocanthosaurus is known from North America.
