Phrynosoma modestum (Wiegmann 1828) [extant] is a member of one of the two recognized and extant lizard families, the Iguania. This ant-eating, flat horned lizard was a sister to Trioceros and was a more distant sister to Iguana and Draco.
Not closely related to the Australian thorny devil, Moloch horridus.
