Mitsukurina and Tanyrhinichthys

Tanyrhinicthys mcallisteri (Gottfried, 1987; Stack, Hodnett, Lucas and Sallan 2018; 15 cm; Late Carboniferous) is a goblin shark sister, not a sturgeon relative, though not far from sturgeons and Chondrosteus, with which it shares a pair of jaws. This is one of the first fish with teeth and it precedes both sharks and bony fish. It also has armor.

Mitsukurina owstoni (Jordan 1898; 3-4+m long) is the extant goblin shark, a transitional form leading from the mako shark to guitar fish. This is a sluggish swimmer feeding on sea floor prey, sensing their electrical fields, snatching them with protrusible jaws, (as in the guitarfish).
