Gobiderma pulchrum (Borsuk-Bialynicka, 1984; Late Cretaceous) was originally considered a relative of Heloderma, but with a more elongate skull. The large reptile tree nests Gobiderma as a sister to Anniella (see below), the extant American legless lizard at the base of all skinks, including Chalcides. It is derived from a sister to Shinisaurus.

Anniella pulchra (Gray 1852, extant) is the extant American legless lizard. It is a sister taxon to Gobiderma in the large reptile tree. Like burrowing snakes and amphisbaenids the occiput is inflated and the upper temporal arches are absent.
