Chilesaurus diegosuarezi (Novas et al. 2015; Late Jurassic, 150 mya) nests with Daemonosaurus and Jeholosaurus at the base of the Ornithischia and near the base of the Phytodinosauria. Originally it was considered a bizarre theropod of uncertain affinities. Despite its late appearance, Chilesaurus demonstrates the genesis of the ornithischian pelvis.
Two years later Baron and Barrett 2017 confirmed the present nesting when they also nested Chilesaurus as a basal ornithischian, unfortunately without credit or reference to the earlier discovery. |
