Batrachotomus kupferzellensis (Gower 1999, 2002, 2009) Late Triassic ~ 230 mya, 4-5 m long, was derived from a sister to Vjushkovia and phylogenetically preceded Prestosuchus and the other rauisuchids.
Distinct from Arizonasaurus, the skull of Batrachotomus had a more deeply curved maxilla and a deeper naris.
There were two fewer dorsal vertebrae. The dorsal neural spines were shorter, creating a ridge, not a sail.
The scapula was dorsally expanded.
The ilium was relatively longer, both anteriorly and posteriorly. Six vertebrae were located between the ilia.
The foot was large enoug, the torso short enough and the sacral area large enough to enable occasional bipedal locomotion. |
