Baphetes and Megalocephalus

Baphetes planiceps ((Owen 1854, Watson 1929 Beaumont 1977) nests between taxa transitional to tetrapods in the LRT. The keyhole orbit is a key trait. The anterior portion was considered an antorbital fenestra in earlier work. An extra bone, the internasal appears central to the premaxillae.

Megalocephalus pachycephalus (Barkas 1873, Beaumont 1977; Late Carboniferous; ~1.5 m in length) is known only from a longer skull with an elongate, two-part orbit.
