Giraffa camelopardalis (Linneaus 1758) is the living giraffe, the tallest living mammal. Derived from a sister to Micromeryx, the giraffe greatly elongates the cervical series and limbs. The torso is shortened, the lumbar region is virtually lost and all teeth are missing from the premaxilla. The giraffed browses on tall trees. |
