Scoloparia glyphanodon (Sues and Baird 1998, NSM 996 GF82.1- lower colored skull) is a procolophonid with enormous orbits and just the start of a laterally directed quadratojugal.
The larger skull (83.1-upper colored skull) is 7 cm wide, could be a small procolophonid if the skull roof resembles the restoration above, based on possibly related taxa. Sues and Baird considered the posterior bones nuchal (neck) osteoderms and thought Scoloparia was related to procolophonids like Procolophon. The alternative restoration is shown here.
Sues and Baird (1998) promote procolophonid relationships that are not supported by the present study. They lump Owenetta and Sclerosaurus with procolophonids. |
