Mesorhinosuchus fraasi (Jaekel 1910 - originally Mesorhinus and considered an temnospondyl amphibian, unnumbered GZG, Early Triassic, Olenekian) is the oldest and most primitive known parasuchian. While the naris was dorsal, it was not raised into a prominence and the nares were quite large. The anterior half of the skull is restored here based on other parasuchians.

Mesorhinosuchus was destroyed in WWII. What little we have left (this photograph), plus its antiquity, mark it as the most basal of all parasuchians.
