Scomberomorus cavalla (Cuvier 1829; 60cm) is the extant king mackerel or kingfish. related to Scomber, the mackerel. Here it nests basal the mackeral > tuna clade and the Remora clade.
Scomber scombrus (Linneaus 1758; 30cm long) is the extant mackerel, a sister to the extant tuna, Thunnus. Essentially a mackerel is a small tuna. The postorbital is fused to the frontal. The lacrimal overlaps the maxilla.
Thunnus thyrnnus (Linneaus 1758; 4.6m long) is the extant Atlantic tuna. Traditionally it is considered a member of the perch family. Here it nests with mackeral. The tip of the premaxilla descends and carries tiny teeth.
