Thoracopterus magnificus (Bronn 1858; Tintori and Sassi 1992; Late Triassic) is a member of the anchovy clade with huge pectoral fins, convergent with flying fish. Here it nests with the anchovy, Engraulis.
Potanichthys xingyiensis (Xu et al. 2013, Middle Triassic, 11cm snout to tail fork) nests in the LRT with Thoracopterus. The clade that includes extant anchovies, like Engraulis, a taxon not mentioned by Xu et al.
