Robustichthys luopingensis (Xu et al. 2014; Xu 2019; Middle Triassic) was described as the largest holstean fish of the Middle Triassic. Here the clade Holostei is polyphyletic and Robustichthys nests with with Middle Silurian Loganella arising out of the catfish clade. The mandible is slender and the parietal has a long medial split. Note the tripartite nasal. New identities are give to some facial bones here.

Ticinolepis longaeva (López-Arbarell, Bürgin, Furrer and Stockar 2016, MCSN 8072, Triassic, 240 mya) has several traits in common with Robustichthys. Smaller eyes and more cheek bones are present. The palatine teeth are long and sharp, not blunt ss in Ticinolepis crassidens.

Ticinolepis crassidens is closer to Clupea.
