Paracaptorhinus neglectus (Watson 1954) Artinskian, Early Permian, ~280 mya, ~25 mm skull length, was derived from a sister toProtocaptorhinus and phylogenetically preceded Eocaptorhinus. This data is quite old and evidently based on a poorly preserved specimen based on all the dotted line sutures.
Distinct from Protocaptorhinus, the skull of Paracaptorhinus had a lower profile. The posterior mandible ventral margin was concave. The orbit was half again as long as tall. The supratemporal was tiny. A retroartcular process was present and it descended. Ventrally the mandible was straight, then concave. |
