Myxine sp. (Linneaus 1758, ) is the extant hagfish, the most primitive craniate. It lacks even vestigial vertebrae but has a coeloum and a notochord. Like the nematode, the hagfish has sensory tentacles above its eversible teeth and both are blind. More information here.
Glipichthys greenei (Bardack and Richardson 1977; 2.5cm ) is a small Late Carboniferous hagfish from the Mazon Creek Formation. Hagfish originated and radiated prior to the Early Cambrian, likely in the late Ediacaran. |
