Elginia mirabilis (Newton 1893, Late Permian, skull length = 15 cm) is traditionally considered a small horned pareiasaur. In the large reptile tree Elginia nests as derived from a sister to the proto-turtles Bunostegos and is a sister to the horned turtle Meiolania, with species that outlived the large dinosaurs. Only the skull is known.

Like Sclerosaurus the supratemporals developed wide horns and other spikes appeared on the other facial bones. The teeth were serrated for plant eating. A large pineal opening was present. The tabulars and postparietals extended the skull roof far beyond the quadrates and probably the occiput (which is missing).

The Wikipedia reference notes "precise phylogenetic placement is uncertain," but only because no prior study included Meiolania.

Elginia wuyongae (Lie and Bever 2018; Late Permian) is smaller than Elginia mirabilis, lacks long horns and nests between the big desert pareiasaur, Bunostegos, and its Scottish namesake at the base of hard shell turtles. Importantly, E. wuyongae preserves a few post-cranial data, including the genesis of the hard-shell turtle carapace.

Ninjemys oweni (Gaffney 1992; originally Meiolania oweni Woodward 1888) nests between Elginia and the hard-shell turtles in the LRT. Note the laterally oriented horns.
