Baurusuchus salgadoensis (Price 1945, Souza Carvalho et al. 2005, Nascimento and Zaher 2010, Late Cretaceous) was a large (3.5 m, 11 ft) terrestrial predator. Rather than having a low wide snout, Baurusuchus had a tall narrow rostrum, like rauisuchians of the Triassic, a trait shared with Caipirasuchus (see below). Derived from a sister to Dibothrosuchus.

The teeth were robust and serrated. Vertebral spines over the shoulders were very tall. The tail was relatively short. The coracoid was as long as the scapula.

Mariliasuchus amarali (Carvalho and Bertini 1999, Zaher et al. 2006, Nobre et al. 2007) Distinct from most crocs, but like most mammals, Mariliasuchus nostrils faced anteriorly. Like most mammals the teeth were divided into incisors, canines and molars, but the canines were on the premaxilla, not the maxilla. The incisors were procumbent. Vasconcellos et al. (2002) compared these with those of pigs.

Ontogenetic studies (Vasconcellos and Carvalho 2005) noted skulls became shorter and laterally compressed during growth -- but this could be phylogenetic since Mariliasuchus nests at the base of a narrow-skull clade that includes Caipirasuchus and Baurusuchus in the large reptile tree and the skull shown here is wider than tall. These sisters of Mariliasuchus likewise have anterior nares and Caipirasuchus has blunt teeth with premaxillary canines. Armadillosuchus (below) is a sister with anterior nares.

The postcranial skeleton includes traits similar to those of Notosuchus and extant crocs. Nobre and Carvalho (2013) thought Mariliasuchus had a sprawling posture like living crocs.

Armadillosuchus arrudai (Marinho and Carvalho 2009; Late Cretaceous; est. 2m in length) was an herbivorous and armored crocodylomorph from South America. It nests with Mariliasuchus (above) in the LRT. Both have giant premaxillary teeth. The naris is reduced to a tiny hole facing anteriorly. The rostrum may have been more horizontal that originally reconstructed as all sister taxa line up the quadrate with the ventral maxilla. These are members of the Ziphosuchia.
