Chinlestegophis jerkinsi (Pardo et al. 2017; Marjanovic et al 2024; Late Triassic; DMNH 56658, DMNH 39033) was originally and is presently considered a Triassic stem caecilian. Here this taxon nests with Tersomius. Two skulls are known and shown above. The post-crania was like elongate with vestigial limbs based on phylogenetic bracketing. Distinct from the above caecilians, few to no bones are fused together.
Tersomius acadianum (Case 1910, Maddin et al. 2013; AMNH FR 4719, MCZ 1912; Early Permian) nests between Amphibamus and Dendrerpeton and has unusually elevated orbits. |
