Paracaptorhinus neglectus (Watson 1954) Artinskian, Early Permian, ~280 mya, ~25 mm skull length, was derived from a sister to Reiszorhinus and phylogenetically preceded Eocaptorhinus. Protocaptorhinus was a sister taxon.
Distinct from Reiszorhinus, the skull of Paracaptorhinus had a lower profile. The posterior mandible ventral margin was concave. The nasals made an arrowhead shape. The orbit was half again as long as tall. The postparietals were on the occipital plane. The squamosal descended at a right angle. The supratemporal was tiny. A retroartcular process was present and it descended. Ventrally the mandible was straight, then concave. |
