Pterodactylus? [Ctenochasma] elegans? (Zittel 1882, B St 1875 XIV 501, No. 45 of Wellnhofer 1970) ~4 cm skull length, was considered a species of Pterodactylus. Here No. 45 was derived from a sister to Ctenochasma elegans and AMNH 5147. No. 45 phylogenetically preceded Gegepterus, Ctenochasma gracile and Pterodaustro.
Distinct from AMNH 5147, the skull of No. 45 was lower and upturned anteriorly. The jugal was narrower so the orbit took up a majority of the skull height. The postorbital process of the jugal was horizontal, no higher than the base of the jugal. The occiput and quadrate were likewise lowered. The cranium was larger.
The metacarpus was more robust, but the fingers were smaller. The maual unguals were small, no deeper than the phalanges and shorter than any one of them. The wing phalanges were more robust.
The pubis and ischium were separated and the pubis was narrower. The ischium was angled posteriorly. The pes was smaller than the tibia.
