Changchengopterus pani (Lü 2009 CYGB 0036) Middle Jurassic ~170 mya ~12 cm snout to vent length was originally and correctly assigned to the base of the Dorygnathus clade. It was a tiny pterosaur derived from a sister to Eudimorphodon B Sp 1994 and phylogenetically preceded Sordes and Dorygnathus. Like these B Sp 1994 and Sordes, Changchengopterus was quite small, giving more credence to the adult status of these three taxa.
Distinct from B Sp 1994, the caudals were shorter and more gracile.
The coracoid was longer, subequal to the scapula. The humerus was longer. Fingers I-III were elongated.
The prepubis was like a hockey stick but perforated. Metatarsal II was the longest. Digits II-IV were subequal. Pedal 5.1 was robust and p5.2 was curved. |
